Mr. Men and Little Miss Turn 50

Raise your hand if you had these books as a child and/or read them to a child in your life. (🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️) Happy 50th Birthday to all the Mr. Men and Little Misses to have graced your bookshelves.

These picture books are like colorful and more simplistic versions of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle Books. (i.e. You’ve got a pesky behavior you’d like to address? Try a book!) And clearly they’ve stood the test of time. Yes, they’ve run into criticism here and there about the gendered titles, but Adam Hargreaves, who took over the series from his late father Roger, has addressed this with the introduction of Little Miss Inventor, Mr. Calm, and Little Miss Brave.

From this NYT article: “The books’ merits go further than their visual appeal. According to children’s book experts, the key to their longevity is the straightforward way the characters personify emotion and behavior, which helps children learn and understand themselves.”

These books are so basic (in a good way) … Mr. and Little Miss Timeless?
