Plainsong

Plainsong by Kent Haruf is the book I chose for my book club. “Happy ending needed!” was the charge. Not sure I delivered according to those specifications in the way people wanted, but Plainsong is exactly the type of book that I put down and feel uplifted — and hopeful that deep down, humans are not petty and snarky and malicious, but rather, are good and decent and caring. There’s something burrowed deep into our shells (meaning our bodies, which is something Haruf explores). It’s a soul, and I’m thankful that at our very “best,” we humans aren’t empty vessels. There’s something there: Recognize it.

{And sorry to my fellow book club members who maybe wanted a lighthearted romp!}
