I love a good family drama (the Bigtree children — Kiwi, Osceloa, and Ava — must come to terms with their mother’s death), but off-the-wall magical realism makes it more interesting. (Geek Love came to me *immediately* and sure enough, Dunn’s classic was an influence for Russell and her first novel, a Pulitzer finalist in 2012.)
