Why Baby Boomers Love the Kindle

Hey, it’s just a fun lil’ piece in the Wall Street Journal, so don’t shoot the messenger. But as a younger Gen X-er a few years shy of the Millennial cut-off, I do, indeed, prefer a tactile, paper book. You can scroll down to see some excerpts that I grabbed that also align with my preference/reasoning.

But you do you! There are some incredible reasons to rely on an e-reader, including a better experience for arthritic hands (hadn’t thought of that one before), the ability to increase font size, plus all the other ones everyone always shares: “I need to take only this when I travel,” “I don’t need a bookmark” etcetcetc. I get it; I have a Kindle Paperwhite too.

Yet as someone who has been the victim of a home burglary where literally every piece of technology was taken (except for a television because that would have been a bit too conspicuous walking down our busy road in broad daylight?), I am here to offer you some wisdom. Burglars will never take your real books. Not even one. Never. Your paperbacks — but especially your hardbacks — are safe. Just like my friend who had her car broken into in high school and had every tape stolen except for the Indigo Girls one. Books and Indigo Girls: They will always be safe with you. The Prince of Darkness will always take the Least Complicated solution — and that is your e-reader. (And with that, this Gen X gal is seeing herself out…)
