Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins
Tom Robbins passed away in 2025, and if you haven’t read any work by him yet, perhaps 2026 is your year. His novels are strange and loopy and USA Today wrote that “Robbins possesses magnet-like power,” while Playboy wrote “Flat-out fabulous,” so we’ve kind of got all bases covered here don’t we? With this first line, you can’t go wrong: “It was a bright, defrosted, pussy-willow day at the onset of spring, and the newlyweds were driving cross-country in a large roast turkey.” (Now check out the pic below, which is an excerpt from his Wikipedia page.)
I also have Even Cowgirls Get the Blues around here somewhere, but I haven’t uncovered it yet, so Skinny Legs and All is my selection for ya!
