RAWTS: How It Began

Hi. I’m Amy’s husband, Matt. She says nice things about me here, but she rarely speaks of the dirty family secret: I don’t read.

That’s not totally true, as I read all day everyday, but that’s mostly news, research reports, and transcripts, with a non-fiction book thrown in maybe once a year. I’ve probably read fewer than 5 fiction books ever...I essentially faked my way through English classes growing up (hi kids 😬)

I’ve had good success with annual goals the last few years (adventures, health) so for 2021, my goal is to co-read a proper fiction book with Amy. She proposed we crowdsource this.

We need a REALLY good, deep, must-talk-about-the-plot-complexities-and-beautiful-writing-type book. You guys know Amy/alifelyread. You follow her because her mind is complex (😘) and her passion & appetite for sharing good lit is insatiable. Don’t dumb it down for me...I want to read along with an Amy-type book that she has yet to read. Ideas?

{Amy here: Matt 100% came up w this idea; I already knew about this “goal,” but what you just read showed up as a text while I was on a run. [Pic cred to our daughter Cecelia.] He’s raring to go! Here’s your opportunity to initiate him into this world. Pls don’t say Where the Crawdads Sing.}
