RAWTS: We Chose The Overstory

Awww, it’s His and Her copies of The Overstory. Thank you to those who played along with my husband Matt’s big “resolution” for 2021! As you can see, we chose Richard Powers’ novel, which is a Pulitzer-winner, a Booker shortlister, a NYT Notable book – and the one that (I think) had the most mentions in that post from 3 days ago. Thanks, Silver Unicorn Books, for excellent service as always.

I can already tell this will be an interesting experiment. Not just because I like discussing books and this should be a good one to discuss/read, but because it’s going to illuminate some of the reasons how and why we (meaning everyone, not just me and Matt) read. (Oh wait: Matt *doesn’t* read.) I can see the differences already: Matt has already started, and meanwhile…I didn’t realize that we were starting yet? Perhaps some read to savor, and some read to reach the finish line. Just sayin’.

Any other former curious kids here who used to read the “Can This Marriage Be Saved?” column in Ladies’ Home Journal while waiting for the dentist? (Oh, just me?) I feel like this is our version. (Although I am very grateful that our marriage doesn’t need to be “saved.”) Stay tuned for periodic dispatches and insights.

{PS: That post with Matt’s mug is good as gold as far as recommendations. You should check out the comments if you need ideas for your next read…with or without a partner!}
