Brontë Manuscripts
The artifacts are old…but this type of story may be old as well.
More Brontë manuscripts and notes have been discovered, and they were auctioned off by Sotheby’s in June. (Yes, this is a 4-month-old article.) If you’re into this kind of thing, go ahead and track down the article from the NYT. (The front above-the-fold picture is of an 1841 birthday note from Emily to Anne; the second pic is of some of Emily’s poems, with edits by Charlotte; the third you can zoom in on the caption to read.)
But here’s what I’m thinking: This kind of news story isn’t long for this world. Even though writers these days may take initial notes, etc. with pen to paper, how many actually compose long-hand these days? (I feel like I read something recently about someone who does, but I can’t remember who.) So what is Sotheby’s going to be searching for in the future? Access to a writer’s Google Drive? A flash drive?
It’s not the same, is it?
